The Brief
Steriliser Services required a small production run of 10 stainless steel wash baskets for use in medical and laboratory sterilisation systems. The baskets needed to securely hold instruments during cleaning cycles while allowing full drainage of water and sterilising fluids. A key requirement was a precise 11.1mm x 11.1mm mesh aperture, ensuring smaller instruments would not fall through during use. Each basket also required tall, reinforced handles to allow safe lowering into and removal from sterilising equipment.
Solutions Delivered
Eagle Wire designed and manufactured the stainless steel wash baskets using in-house CAD design and full fabrication capability. Each basket was produced from stainless steel wire, cut and bent in-house using precision equipment and pneumatic bending processes. The frames were then fabricated and welded, with integrated tall handles designed for repeated handling in industrial sterilisation environments. Stainless steel wire mesh was cut to size and welded into each frame, maintaining consistent aperture sizing across all 10 sterilisation baskets.
Once fabrication was complete, the baskets were sent for electro-polishing via a specialist subcontractor. This process removed weld marks and improved surface finish, supporting hygienic use in medical and laboratory sterilisation applications. After finishing, the baskets were returned ready for immediate use.
